Business transactions may include various licensing agreements

Businesses in Texas and elsewhere may take advantage of a wide variety of licensing arrangements that may benefit both parties to the transaction. Licenses may consist of business transactions permitting the use of patents, trademarks or other technology from one firm to another. A recent transaction between a university in another state and an innovation technology firm is an example of such a licensing arrangement.

Some pitfalls in first-time leasing of commercial real estate

There are some real dangers that a business owner in Texas may encounter when leasing its first commercial business space. Experts have postulated the common mistakes that first-time lessees may encounter when leasing commercial real estate. One common mistake is to commit to a rental rate that is higher than the business can afford. A basic site is sufficient in the early stages of the business and the owners should not get obsessed with glitter and fancy facades.

Common commercial real estate mistakes to avoid

Successful commercial real estate investment requires strong business acumen. In Texas especially, to triumph in the commercial real estate market, an investor needs to be prepared. Just like any worthwhile enterprise, investing in commercial real estate isn’t always easy, and in order to succeed a savvy investor should know not only what works, but also what doesn’t.

Asset management firms engage in complex business transactions

Financial management and investment companies in Texas and elsewhere engage in mergers and acquisitions just like other corporate entities. For example, Voya Financial, Inc., a publicly-traded investment management firm, recently announced that it will divest itself of its annuity business and sell that segment to an investment consortium led by Apollo Global Management, LLC and Reverence Capital Partners. The divestiture will allow Voya to concentrate on its retirement, investment management and employee benefits businesses. These kinds of business transactions take place regularly, both nationally and internationally.
